Alikhan was the youngest in a musical family of six, his love for music and singing started when he was very young. At 10 he led the 'stuti' prayers and in addition to singing, he developed a passion for playing percussion instruments including drums and tablas and was a member of the Jawani band in Edmonton. He graduated with an engineering degree at the University of Nairobi in 1973 and emigrated in 1974 to Canada. He and his wife Naznin and raised their two children Faizal and Farrah. He truly doted on his children and grandchildren, and they continue to remember and love their 'Babbap'. His passion was to serve and throughout his life he has been in service including driving a bus for University Jamat Khana in Nairobi, serving in the Ismaili Volunteer Corp, Edmonton council as member for Youth and Itreb Chair for two terms. He was the Jamati Mukhi at West JK and served on the Imaara national board as Vice Chair. He was happiest when he was reciting and teaching ginans. His life has been a role model for all those around him and continues to inspire his family and friends.
