From our childhood, my siblings and I, would often listen to our beloved father Late Alijah Hussainaly Bandealy, a renowned ginan reciter of Dhaka/Karachi, as he did his voice trainings daily at 3am on his tanpura. On the weekends, us five siblings would often sing with our parents and this helped us develop a sound sense of rhythm and a great interest in learning and reciting ginans. I joined ginan classes at Amynabad JK in Karachi and I was immensely blessed to have recited uṇīā bhī uṇīā in Mawlana Hazar Imam's Huzur in 1976. I have been very passionate and have loved reciting ginans in jamatkhanas all over the world. This has given me extreme joy and inner satisfaction. Since 1982, whosoever asked me to record my recitation of ginans, I would sit in my room with my small tape recorder and tape for them; thinking that this was a convenient way for people to learn ginans and that they shall remember me when I am no more. I continued learning and reciting ginans at the Clifton jamatkhana in Karachi where I later served as the Chairperson of the Study Circle – Aga khan Council for Kharadar, for fifteen years and helped organize many ginan and geet mehfils and also trained several instructors.
