I grew up in Mtwara where I did my primary education and completed my secondary education in Lindi. I moved to Dar es Salaam where I met my wife Nurbanu. We got married in 1972 and moved to Karachi. After a couple of years, we settled in London, UK. We immigrated to Calgary in 1978 and have been here since. We have two beautiful daughters and four lovely grandchildren. My interest in ginans started in 2005 with encouragement from my wife who thought I had a decent voice and should learn ginans. I started reciting in jamatkhana sometime in 2008. I began recording at home since 2009. I used to turn to Alijah Amirali Abdulhussein for reference to questions I had on ginans. Alwaez Abdul Mawji has been a constant source of inspiration and has assisted me whether it be with the Gujrati language or with its meanings. Ever since my interest in ginans, apart from my family, it has become my focal point of inspiration. It gives me pleasure to learn ginans. It teaches me about our religion, the importance of reciting it the correct way, making sure you get the proper language and nuance behind it.
