Profile  Albums Ginans (8)

Saker Hussein Datoo (Sahure) was well known for singing filmi/bollywood songs on the radio in Zanzibar - Sauti Ya Unguja with her brother. She got married and moved to Dar-es-Salaam and was a popular singer at the music and ginan parties in 1950s, 1960s and 1970s in East Africa. She recited (solo) ginan in the presence of Hazar Imam, during His visit to Changombe JK, Dar es Saleem in the 1960s. After her recitation, Hazar Imam gave her duashish and told her 'You have a very sweet voice.' She was a member of the Dar es Salaam Ginan Mushairo team with performances in Dar-es-Salaam, Nairobi Kisumu, Arusha, Moshi, Mwanza, Tanga and Morogoro. She moved to Toronto, Canada in 1977. She performed with Mehdi Bawa & party, in Toronto and Montreal at Geet Parties. One of her mentor was Shamshu Tejpar of Dar-es-Salaam. Mowla bless his soul in eternal peace. My deepest gratitude to Arzina Merali was encouraging and arranging for the recording in Toronto and to Dr Karim Tharani of Ginan Central, University of Saskatchewan for uploading the ginans to the website.
