I was born in Dar es Salaam on Oct 27 1932 and did my schooling in then Tanganyika and got married to Gulamhussein Gulamani in 1954. I have served in various Jamati and institutional positions including as Kamadiani of Darkhana Jamatkhana in Dar es Salaam 1984-1987. One of my treasured memories is when I travelled by steamship with my parents in 1953/4 to India and Pakistan to attend Imam Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah's Platinum Jubilee. We moved to USA in the year 2000 where we were active in Jamatkhana activities in San Jose California as well as at the Senior Center where I pursued my writing interests. I published a cookbook The Flavors of India & Africa in 2014. I have recorded ginans and also written devotional geets some of which have already been made into songs. After my husband Alijah Gulamhussein Gulamani passed away in 2015, I strongly encouraged my family to develop the JollyGul.com platform in memory of my late husband. It was Alijah's wish that the family do whatever it can to promote community artists and devotional songs tradition in the Jamat.
