My interest in Ginan has been inherited from my parents Rafique Laljee (Laljee Master) and Rashida Laljee, who taught me how Ginans bear lessons for material and spiritual life when the esoteric meaning is unearthed and the reason for certain ragas that vary with time, place and culture. My rendezvous with the recitation started at the age of 5 in Khane. I learnt many ragas from several renowned ITREB teachers to enrich my knowledge. With every recitation/learning my desire to learn more ginans with their meaning grew stronger. I still remember how my nervousness of recitation disappeared when I focused on the message of the Ginan. As years passed, I wanted to contribute to keep this wonderful tradition alive with the right ragas. Thus, I recited ginans as well as trained several of our brothers and sisters locally, nationally and internationally in India, United Kingdom and Canada to name a few. Personally, I express my emotions and try to communicate/connect with Allah through Ginans. I express my happiness to Him through Qasidas/Garbi, sorrow/loneliness with ginans like dasi teri, self-reflection through aakhrat ginans/kalaam, remembering ruhanis with ruhani ginans, fright with Sai(n)ya(n)ji more, etc. Trust me, you have to try it.
