Profile  Albums Ginans (2)

I was born and raised in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, the eldest of 7 sisters. I attended University of Nairobi where I studied Architecture. I met my future husband, Alikhan there and we immigrated to Canada 1974, with $50 in our pockets. We raised our two children Faizal and Farrah and have four grandchildren, Khaleem, Zahaan, Nashaan and Zavian. I try to instill the ethics of volunteerism to them. One of my greatest joys is to recite ginans with them and have recorded their favorite ginans. Alikhan, my husband, who was a wonderful ginan reciter and mentored me and was my strongest supporter. I have worked with the banking industry for many years, in customer service management and later joined the Aga Khan Foundation Canada as the Regional Campaign Manager in Edmonton later as a member of the volunteer National AKFC board. I have served on the community Resolution and Arbitration Board as a mediator, Canada Day breakfast team, Cross Cancer Institute charity events and Ismaili Civic etc. I was recipient of the 2017 Stars of Alberta Volunteer award. 'Volunteering makes me feel great and I hope I can inspire others to feel the same.'
