I began learning and reciting ginans at a very young age. Having an interest in voice and music growing up, ginans carved a beautiful path of devotion, understanding and connection to divine energy. Throughout our experience of life, we have many questions about the world around us. Ginans are one tool that can be used to help us learn our history to better understand the present. This ultimately prepares us for the future. My primary mentor learning ginans has been my mother. She spent countless hours in preparations to ensure my recitations in jamatkhana were a positive experience for the jamat as well as myself. Having recited ginans on many occasions, I learned from a young age the importance of leadership for the community. As a child I would sit behind the podium and feel the vibration of the entire jamat reciting with me, look up and see everyone's eyes on me. I's quite empowering as much as it is nerve wracking. Looking beyond into the future, I seek to explore the combination of my movement and dance practices with ginans. As a young professional working in the performing arts sphere, I now understand and comprehend ginans on a deeper level and seek to incorporate them more into my devotional practice
