I was fond of Sur-Sangeet from my childhood and was good at reciting ginans at Religious Centre. When I moved from Kharadar to Garden, Karachi in 1978, and was attending Darkhana (Garden) Jamatkhana, I was inspired by the Ginan Reciters (Instructors and senior members). I joined the Darkhana (Garden) Ginan Class in 1980 as a student and remained an active member until migrating to Canada in 2011. Rai Jafer Sadiq Surmawala (Founder and most senior Instructor of Darkhana (Garden) Class) was my 1st ginan teacher. I was fortunate to learn over 100 ginans from him and many from Sir Mohammad Khimani, Alijah Noorullah H. Khalfan and other Senior Instructors. I was blessed with the opportunity to recite Ginan in Huzur in 1985 and 1989 in Karachi and participated in many solo/chorus ginan and geet album recordings. I was appointed as Ginan Instructor for Nizari, Kharadar, Rehmani Garden, PASK (Masala) and Darkhana Religious Study Circles in Karachi from 1986 to 2006 and had the opportunity to train hundreds of adult students in that capacity. I have continued to recite and record ginans in Canada and I am very grateful for the wonderful opportunities and seva. Shukar!
