From a very young age, I have been interested in ginans. My dad would teach me the raga and I would practice singing with him. Music was an integral part of my daily life. An endless number of people have acted as inspiration - my grandfather, brother, all my sisters, Rai Gulamali Kassam Shivji and many others. I have also been blessed by a family of singers. I have also participated in ginan mehfils. Have also recorded ginans with Taufik Karmali and group in England and recorded ginan CDs in high profile studio in India. My most defining moment was with Grace of Allah - I recited ginan when Hazir Imam was present in the building. Ginans are like food for my soul and I continue to learn new ginans. When I recite ginans I feel the connection with the Almighty and feel as if something is happening inside me. I taught ginans in mission class for many years. I know a lot of ginans and sometimes Jamati members come and ask me meanings and ragas of ginans.Birthplace: Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania
