My interest in reciting Ginans got ignited way back when I was still in Aga khan Boys Primary School in Dar-es-Salaam.  With the basic compositions like Hak tu Pak tu Badshah Maherban. The urge to learn to sing incrementally more difficult and advanced ginans continued in the AgaKhan Secondary School where the Religion curriculum not only included more complex ginans but now introduced us to various challenging Granths like Anant Akhado, Kalame Mowla and Bhraham Prakash. Of course, with limited time available for Religious Studies at school, I would learn ginan raagas at home from both my parents who themselves were religion teachers back in Dar-es-Salaam. I wish to acknowledge with gratitude the following teachers throughout school years for their untiring efforts in providing us pupils the ginanic foundation of our faith that has sustained me these past fifty plus years and continues to inspire me. Mr. Karim (Master) Pirani, Mrs. Tajubai Abuali, Mr. Sadrudin Bandali, and Mrs. Shirin Budhani (my mentor and beloved mother).
