My father, the late missionary Abuzar Ali Allahwala, is my greatest inspiration and it was his love for singing that helped me develop a passion for Ginans. My interest in Ginans stemmed from learning the meaning of the words and the more I learnt these meanings, the more my interest grew. I believe that Ginans are food for the soul and can help us to strike a balance between living in this material world and being able to embrace the world of the spiritual. There is something unique and magical about singing a Ginan because you may be physically singing, but your soul transcends to another level and it is like you are floating somewhere beyond the physical world. The first Ginan I ever learnt was 'Uth jaag man mera' which help me realize that we should always do things first before advising others to do them. Thus my personal motto has always been 'first practice then preach.' I have had various opportunities to participate in Ginan Mehfils in Karachi and Toronto. Additionally, I have taught various Ginans and their meanings to my own daughters as well as many students (youth and adults). Most recently, I have started to share this passion with my 5-year old grandson.
