I have learnt Ginans since we were in 'Night School' in Nairobi as was the norm at the time. My mum was a walking encyclopedia when it came to Ginans and their meanings. I started singing Ginans by accident when I came to Richmond Jamatkhana one Saturday and was asked to take an impromptu Ginan waro. This is how I got into Ginans and started to look at the meanings of the Ginans. As I get older, I have come to appreciate the timeless knowledge these Ginans contain. I enjoy singing, learning and sharing new Ginans that I learn with the Jamat. I also enjoy the variety and the different renditions globally of the Ginans and Qasidas.
