As a young child, I was taught ginans by my parents, elder brother, and BUI teachers. It wasn't until Grade 9 that I became excited to recite ginans in Jamatkhana. My mentors were my former BUI teachers, Ismail Alibhai and Sadru Hussainaly. During Camp Al-Ummah I was first exposed to qasidas. It was at this camp where I learned and recited two qasidas. In 2001, I performed at a ginan mushairo at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton, under the tutelage of Shabnam Merali and Nadir Rajan. I now teach my own children ginans and qasidas, all the while, continuing to learn and recite ginans and qasidas. Personally, when reciting ginans or qasidas, I feel the connection to the Almighty and our Creator, Allah.Birthplace: Edmonton, Canada
