Profile Ginans (22)

I have been interested in ginans since my early childhood and was taught initially by my father. Ginans have been a tradition of my father's family since the time of my great grandfather. From then onwards, he passed down the ginan tradition with talented voices from generation to generation. As I grew older, I came across many mentors and teachers who taught me more knowledge and guidance in singing ginans. One of the greatest teachers and singers who brought me far in life with singing and learning ginans & geets, was Shabnam Merali. She is an inspirational teacher who is never forgotten and continues to teach and perform worldwide. Without her, my talent in singing and performing would not have brought me where I am today. Through her I have been able to participate in Geet Mehfils from cities to cities, Band performances from celebrations on occasions, and experiencing one of the greatest moments in lifetime; singing at Golden Jubilee Didar while Hazar Imam was present in the building. Ginans have a rich and deep meaning to them that shower knowledge upon us and guide us throughout our lives. Their rhythms and hymns are cherishing that touches our souls deeply as they are recited. As the jamat or a group of people recite together, it brings joy and happiness to the soul.
