From a very young age, I was surrounded by audios of my dad's geets and ginans. He would make me sit with him and his harmonium and practice singing to various scales. Music in general, was an integral part of our daily life and no evening was complete without listening to my dad's evening riyaz. He is and has been my only mentor. I have also been blessed to have been surrounded by a family of singers, no gathering complete without an impromptu music party of songs, geets and ginans. Growing up as a teenager in Karachi, I naturally gravitated towards participating in ginan mehfils and being part of ginan groups, but it wasn't until my university years in Canada, that I started taking my singing a little bit more seriously, increasing my repertoire of ginans, recording ginans, recording geets for Golden Jubilee and being a part of Khushiali bands. The most defining moment of course for me, was when I was selected to recite ginan, in Imam's huzoor, during the Diamond Jubilee Darbar in London 2018.
