Profile  Albums Ginans (3)

I have been reciting Ginans since I was a young child.  By the time I was three years old, I had recited my first Ginan in Jamatkhana in Edmonton.  My mother, Gulbanu Charania, is a passionate and active Ginan reciter to this day.  She taught me many different Ginans including various types of Ginans for various occasions and situations (i.e. morning versus evening Ginans, Ginans for celebrations versus Ginans for funerals).  My mother also spent time teaching me the meanings of the various Ginans to ensure I could recite from the heart knowing the meaning of what I was reciting.  Reciting Ginans is considered an honor and a profound seva in our family.  I am told, we come from a long line of Ginan reciters going back to my maternal great grandmother, my maternal grandmother, my mother, down to me and now my own children who continue this special and rich tradition.  The pinnacle of my experience as a Ginan reciter was when I recited Ginan in Mowlana Hazar Imam's Huzur for the Golden Jubilee in 2008.  This event and this opportunity was the proudest moment for my entire family.  We are truly blessed.
