Ghulam Haider M. Jaffer had interest in ginans and its meaning since he was child. His father was a ginan reciter and his mentor and since Ghulam Haider had a beautiful voice, he was always encouraged to recite ginans and he then developed interest to memorize ginans and understand its meaning. He used to wake up at 3:00 am in the morning with his father and recite ginans. He had memorized more than 100 ginans. His beautiful voice, the recitation, and the understating of meaning of ginans gave him much exposure, and the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) approached him to record his voice to preserve the original raags. Dr. Alidina also requested him to record his voice and based on his original raags he published an audio tape by the name of Raagaas where the ginans are recited with music. His world view was shaped by ginans. He would always give references of ginans and explain its meaning. On numerous occasions the ginan scholars at the institute of Ismaili Studies consulted him on words, meaning and context of the ginans. Ghulam Haider M Jaffer and Kassam Ali M. Jaffer started to learn and recite ginans at a very early age. Their father was expert in ginans therefore both brothers developed the interest in learning ginans and its meaning. Their father was from Jirak Sindh Pakistan.
